2019 ACCEPTED SHERIDAN ANIMATION PORTFOLIO + ADVICE

Here is the portfolio that I used to apply to Sheridan's Honours Bachelor of Animation program this year!  I've included all of the portfolio components and descriptions, along with the scoresheet I received with my results.

If you're looking for more detail I also put together a doc of everything I learned throughout the process, a more in-depth explanation of the requirements, and general advice.   If anyone is interested, you can find that here!: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1Frctz8mONNy20bHn4AVcRFjQ3MB1TM6VACoroNxEno/edit?usp=sharing

And now onto the portfolio! I hope this is a help for future applicants!

SCORESHEET
To start here is the marked scoresheet. This year the domestic cutoff was 84%, while the international cutoff was 89%.

LIFE DRAWING
For this section you're required to submit four figure drawings.  Two must be 1-3 minute gestures while the others must be more detailed at 5-20 minutes.

HAND DRAWINGS
There are always two hand drawings required.  This year the first pose had to show the hand about to press a button, with the second one actually pressing the button.

CHARACTER ROTATION
This section requires you to design a character, and then turn them around.  A front view, a 3/4 front view, a side view, and a 3/4 back view are required.  The poses should all turn to one consistent direction.

SHORT ANIMATION
Last year's short animation required a character.  This year we had to animate an object.  The minimum for this is 24 images with a max of 48.

STORYBOARDING
Each year for storyboarding you're given two characters to choose from to create a four panel story with.  This year the theme had to be "surprise."

PERSPECTIVE LINE DRAWINGS
Two layouts are required for this section.  For the last two years they have required one indoor and one outdoor scene.  This year we had to draw an interior office, and a landscape (Which could include rocks, trees, mountains, etc.).

PERSONAL ARTWORK
And finally the personal work!  Here they want five pieces of your own that display your skill in other areas and interests.  The only requirements here are that you do not include work done for school and no fanart.  I personally included some digital work, some observational sketches and a painting, and a sketchbook compilation. (Side Note: I did not watermark the original submissions)

And there you have it!  Again, if you're looking for a more detailed breakdown of the portfolio then check out the link I have above.  If you have any other questions when the time comes you're welcome to message me on my instagram @jgdartt, and I'm sure there are many students already in the program who would be welcome to help out!  BEST OF LUCK to all future applicants!
